Kila Gompa Nunnery is located below Chelela Pass, on the way to Haa valley, about 27km from Bongdey, Paro. History and interesting facts of Kila Goemba nunnery

The Kila Goemba nunnery was originally founded in the early 9th century by Drupthob Chhoeje Norbu and Drupthob Temba as a permanent site. After being burned by a hurricane, it was rebuilt by the 25th Je Khenpo, Sherub Gyeltshen. Currently, the nunnery is home to more than 60 nuns aged between 15 and 25. Some of them are orphans, but some have given up material rehabilitation to achieve spiritual peace. Since ancient times, Kila Goemba has been a sacred site for many famous saints, including Drupthob Chilkarwa, a student of Pelden Drukpa of the Kagyupa sect.
