Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave was discovered in the 16th century by some local men by chance while clearing grass. The main entrance to the cave was only built in 1991. Inside the cave are many temples and statues dedicated to Shiva and other Hindu gods, including: Mahadev, Parvati, Nageswor and Saraswati. During the journey of discovery, people discovered a waterfall flowing through the cave. Through inspection, that waterfall was flowing from Patale Chhango (later known as Davis Falls).
